Cal Bear Ayinde Ubaka (cq) has the inside track on a loose ball as he battles Oregon St. Beavers Michael Johnson, top, and Marcel Jones, left, during first half of first round game of the Pac 10 Basketball Tournament at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, Wednesday March 07, 2007. Cal’s Patrick Christopher is at left.

It’s only a short ride (15 mins.), but it was a long day after playing a double-header vs. the Fullerton Flyers, as the Japan Samurai Bears of the independent Golden League take a bus back to their hotel, late Tuesday night. They are the first all-Japanese team to participate in an American sports league. They are in the midst of a grueling stretch of 90 games in 96 days in which they are living out of cheap hotels and their team bus while traveling throughout California and Arizona to play the other teams in the new startup league.
